"No Hate, No Fear. Immigrants Are Welcome Here!"

January 27, 2025

A cold, biting wind did nothing to stop the screams and chants of a determined crowd. They gathered in numbers. With signs held high, flags waving fiercely in the wind, and loud voices that rang out across the streets. Their message was clear: "NO HATE. NO FEAR. IMMIGRANTS ARE WELCOME HERE!"

The blaring horns from cars driving by. Drivers raising their fists, shouting or nodding in support. The rumble of cement trucks, garbage trucks, delivery trucks and yellow school buses passing by, as semi-truck drivers blew their horns in solidarity on their way to the meatpacking plants. Each sound, a powerful reminder that immigrants run this country.

This is South Omaha. A place where I grew up. A place I've called home since coming to America in 1987. A place defined by its people: hardworking, resilient, generous, and kind. A place I love, a place where diversity is celebrated, and neighbors lift each other up in times of need.

As the chants continued, the message became more than just words—it was a promise. A promise to honor the sacrifices of those who came before us, to uplift the voices that have too often been silenced, and to fight for a future where everyone belongs.

"NO HATE. NO FEAR. IMMIGRANTS ARE WELCOME HERE!" These words were not just a demand but a declaration: this country is better because of its immigrants. We are essential, we are valued, and we are home.
